Set composed by clock and pair of fittings, conceived as a fireplace garniture in late romantic taste. The upper scene represents a young couple in gallant attitude - titled "La Rencontre" -, resolved with gentle naturalism and elegant movement, characteristic of the models spread by Mathurin Moreau and his circle.
The figures, in patinated regulé, contrast with the architecture of red griotte marble, enhanced by gilded bronze rocaille applications. The enameled dial, with Arabic numerals, framed by gilt cartouche, houses quality Parisian machinery, a common system in French production at the end of the century.
The side vases repeat the same material dialogue: bodies in regulé decorated with scrolls and small lovebirds topped by engraved glass lampshades. The set fully responds to the decorative taste of the Belle Époque.
