This piece belongs to the personal collection of Don Juan José Ontalva (Chinchón, 1930- Madrid, 2019), famed watchmaker from Madrid, descendant of several family generations dedicated to the world of watches. During his career he achieved a high degree of precision and skill, becoming a master of other watchmakers. He is currently recognized for numerous works, highlighting the commissioning and restoration of the astronomical clock of Billeter, located in the Congress of Deputies.

In 1882 Armando Río y Cuervo, together with his brothers Plácido and Lisardo, inherited their uncle Ramón's watchmaking business. The result of the inheritance is the birth of Cuervo y Sobrinos. From then on, the three brothers work to make the finest watches in Cuba. The company will work in search of elegance and refinement in all its pieces and in a few years the success of Cuervo y Sobrinos is such that they are forced to open new branches in Germany, France and other countries around the world.
