This type of dress is mostly used in the villages of Kaitang and Wengxiang, in Panghai district and also in the villages of Geyi and Pingsui in Taijang county, always within the province of Ghizou. He belongs to the Hmong ethnic group, commonly known as Miao, which in Mandarin can be translated as "rare". Unlike other Miao clans, the Miao in this area prefer this purple colour in a matte finish, without the typical sheen of Miao beaten silk. The type of embroidery stitch used on the ornamented parts is known as 'dazi', and is characterised by the moiré effect.
