BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Pair of sculptures; Germany, second half of the nineteenth century.
Biscuit porcelain.
Presents marks of the manufacture of Richard Klemm.
Measurements: 33,5 x 20,5 x 16 cm.
Sculptural group formed by two independent sculptures, whose thematic is coincident. In both cases the sculptor has portrayed a young lady who is accompanied by a sweetheart. The artist has reflected with success and realism, not without a certain idealization, reflected in the delicate and graceful limbs of both infants and young women. He has endowed his figures with a sweet face, although with a dynamic expression. Due to the markings, the set belongs to the manufacture of Richard Klemm, located in Dresden. Dresden was home to more than 200 workshops dedicated to this type of production. However, the "Dresden" style and quality have always been associated with objects bearing the blue crown mark. First registered by Richard Klemm, Donath & Co, Oswald Lorenz and Adolph Hamann.
The biscuit technique, used in this piece, offers a matte and very white finish to the pieces, began to be used in the middle of the 18th century, especially in France, at the Sèvres factory, and in Italy, at the Royal Factory of Capodimonte. This technique was used to make statuettes, pastoral or gallant scenes and, in the 19th century, dolls.
