DESCRIPTION
F. OTTO for Royal Dux. Bohemia, ca. 1900.
Table lamp.
Porcelain.
Electrified.
Signed by F. Otto and Royal Dux on the back.
Measurements: 60 x 19 x 21 cm.
Sculptural lamp with the representation in round bulk of a young woman wrapped in a golden cloth or towel, as if just out of a bath. It follows the feminine nymph-like typology that predominated in the Art Nouveau period. The quality of the modeling stands out, delicate and of great beauty in the expression and movement of the figure.
Royal Dux was one of the most outstanding porcelain manufactures of the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods in Bohemia. Founded by E. Eichler in 1853 in Dux (now Duchov), near Prague, it has remained in business to this day. Around the turn of the century, the firm specialized in the production of Art Nouveau figures and busts. These were large pieces, mainly female-themed, as well as vases decorated with round figures.
