Capodimonte porcelain was created by the Royal Porcelain Factory of Capodimonte, which operated in Naples, Italy, between 1743 and 1759. Capodimonte is the most prominent Italian porcelain factory, with Florence porcelain being the other major Italian factory. Capodimonte porcelain, and is of a soft translucent paste. The entire Capodimonte factory was moved to Madrid and became the Real Fábrica del Buen Retiro, after its founder, King Charles, inherited the Spanish throne. The Real Fábrica del Buen Retiro was a royal manufacture of the Spanish Enlightenment era, of internationally recognized quality. It was founded in Madrid in 1760 on the initiative of Charles III, who had already promoted the creation of the Royal Manufactory of Capodimonte in Naples. In fact, he brought specialized craftsmen from that factory, as well as instruments and porcelain paste with kaolin. It mainly manufactured pieces for the court, in a rococo style that would later evolve towards the neoclassical, although its existence was short-lived, since the factory was destroyed by Wellington's British troops in 1812.
