DESCRIPTION
Follows models of AMALRIC WALTER (Sèvres, 1870 - Lury-sur-Arnon, 1959).
Pair of bookends. Art Deco style.
Paste glass.
Signed "Berge".
Exhibits wear consistent with age and use, some chipping.
Measurements: 18 x 14,5 x 3,5 cm.
Pair of bookends in "pate de verre" Art Deco style, with the representation in relief of two female figures embracing a wave. The influence of Amalric Walter, French ceramist and glassmaker who became known mainly for his "Pâte de verre" glass art, is clearly visible. The technique consists of ground glass being made into paste and modeled, then tracing the design by carving. Glass created by this method was known in ancient times and revived in France in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
