BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

IGOR MULLER (Czech Republic)
"Jack in the Pulpit", ca. 1990. Art Nouveau style.
Iridescent blown glass.
Signed on the back.
Measurements: 33 x 19 x 13 cm.

The "Jack in the Pulpit" vase by Czech artist Igor Muller is an exquisite piece of blown glass that stands out for its vibrant iridescent finish and unique shape, inspired by the flower of the same name (Arisaema triphyllum). These works are a testament to Muller's mastery of traditional glassblowing techniques and his deep knowledge of historical styles, particularly Art Nouveau.

The "Jack in the Pulpit" form is distinguished by its bulbous base that tapers into a long, slender neck, then opens into a dramatic wavy rim, reminiscent of the eponymous flower. Muller's interpretation of this classic form is enhanced by the application of the iridescent technique, which accentuates the curves and folds of the glass, creating unique pieces of great visual impact.

Igor Muller is a renowned glass artist originally from the Czech Republic, a country with a rich and centuries-old history in glass production. After his training, Muller honed his craft working in various glass factories and even spent time at the Simon Pearce Glass Company in Vermont, USA, between 1994 and 1997. Upon his return to Bohemia, he founded his own studio, Glass Studio Müller, in 1998.

Muller's work is characterized by his dedication to recreating replicas of historical styles, such as Renaissance and, prominently, Art Nouveau. This influence is clearly visible in his "Jack in the Pulpit" vases, which evoke the organic forms and lustrous finishes so prized during that artistic period of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its partnership with the Museum of Industrial Art in Prague underscores its commitment to the preservation and reinterpretation of historic decorative arts.
