BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Vase; CARL THIEME; POSTCHAPPEL; Saxony, Germany, 1900.
Partially gilded enameled porcelain.
It has faults, restorations and a hair in the inner area of the tank.
It has marks on the base.
Measurements: 67, 5 x 21 x 18 cm.
Vase made of enameled porcelain and partially gilded that has a classic cup typology, specifically of an amphora. The piece sits on a square base of elevated volume that gives way to the round foot of the vase. The piece stands out for its ornamentation, with motifs in relief such as the garland of flowers that surrounds the central scene of the body and the round figures on the lid. As for the painted scenes, these show a gallant theme in the front area, while the back is reduced to a bouquet of flowers as the central motif.
The Carl Thieme porcelain company was founded in 1886 (or 1836) in Potschappel, Saxony, Germany, by Carl Thieme. The town of Potschappel, along with nearby Dresden and Meissen, has a long tradition of porcelain production dating back to the 18th century.
The company quickly became one of the most successful porcelain factories in Germany. In 1900, it received a gold medal at the Paris World's Fair for its exquisite porcelain figurines. The Carl Thieme Porcelain Company continued to produce high-quality porcelain until its closure in 1935.
