BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Sculpture; Meissen; late nineteenth century.
Enameled and gilded porcelain.
Presents mark on the base.
Measurements: 19,5 x 17,5 x 11 cm.
The gallant theme had a key role in the manufacture of Meissen, since it contributed elegance, sophistication and a marked courtly taste to its pieces. Inspired by French painting, especially Antoine Watteau, these scenes of aristocratic leisure, love and refinement connected porcelain with the fashion and spirit of the rococo, contributing decisively to consolidate Meissen's artistic and commercial prestige in the European courts.
Meissen porcelain, born in 1710, quickly established itself as a benchmark of luxury and quality in Europe. Its iconic mark of the two crossed swords, introduced in 1720, is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the world.
Initially inspired by oriental porcelain, Meissen evolved from rococo to neoclassicism and, in the 19th century, recovered its essence with the second rococo, creating pieces and sculptures of great artistic value. Thanks to the mastery of hard paste porcelain, it maintained its leadership over other manufactures, becoming a lasting symbol of excellence and artisan tradition.
