DESCRIPTION
Capodimonte, XIX century.
"Group of children with floral garlands".
Enameled white porcelain white China style.
Measurements: 20,5 x 17 x 17 cm.
Sculptural group in white porcelain representing two children in an intimate and affectionate scene, adorned with garlands of fruits and leaves, symbol of innocence and abundance. The modeling is soft and detailed, with special care in the faces, children's anatomy and vegetal elements, and rests on an integrated base of discrete lines.
The piece belongs to the Italian tradition of Capodimonte, identified by the blue stamp of the "N" crowned under glaze on the base. Stylistically, it is ascribed to neo-rococo, a modern reinterpretation of 18th century rococo, very widespread in European decorative production.
Founded in 1743 under the reign of Charles VII of Naples, the future Charles III of Spain, the Royal Porcelain Factory of Capodimonte was born with the aim of emulating the great factory of Meissen, whose patron had been Augustus the Strong, grandfather of Queen Maria Amalia of Saxony. It was, after the Saxon factory, one of the first in Europe to use real porcelain, with kaolin, fired at a temperature varying between 700 and 800º, with a second, higher firing, between 1,400 and 1,500º. His production was very extensive, although he was especially noted for his sculptures, both round and in relief, decorating all types of objects.
