DESCRIPTION
Mug. Royal Vienna style. Austria, late nineteenth century
Enameled and gilded porcelain.
With manufacturing mark on the base.
Measurements: 8,5 x 6,2 x 6,2 cm.
Porcelain cup finely enameled and richly gilded, decorated with mythological scene of classical inspiration representing female figures in bucolic landscape, framed by ornamental borders in red and gold. The interior has integral gilding, a typical resource of the Viennese historicist production.
The base shows the well-known blue mark in the form of a shield, traditionally associated with "Royal Vienna", used by Austrian manufactures at the end of the 19th century. This type of pieces, intended for a bourgeois and collector public, reinterpret eighteenth-century classicism under the academic sensibility of the period.
