BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Vase "Medusa" VERSACE for Rosenthal, 90s.
Glazed and gilded porcelain.
In perfect state of preservation.
Measurements: 26 x 16 cm.
Initiated in 1992, the collaboration between Versace and Rosenthal brought together the exuberant aesthetic imaginary of the Italian house with the long manufacturing tradition of the German firm, renowned for its excellence in the production of porcelain since the nineteenth century. Under the creative direction of Gianni Versace, the collections developed for Rosenthal transferred to porcelain the characteristic elements of Versace's visual language: the recurring presence of the Medusa, classically inspired motifs, baroque ornaments and intense chromatic combinations.
The German ceramics, porcelain and glassware manufacturer Rosenthal was founded in 1879 in Selb, Bavaria, by Philip Rosenthal (1855-1937), and is still in business today. Its first success in the market took place at the beginning of the 20th century, thanks to its delicate figural statuettes and its table services, of simplified and refined forms, very different from the earlier Art Nouveau pieces. After World War II, the factory completely renewed its repertoire and hired important designers such as Löwy or Wirkkala.
