A highly ornamental vase, crafted from modeled and hand-painted terracotta, featuring a delicate sculptural composition in relief depicting a romantic scene. Two elegantly attired female and male figures are the focal point of a courtly and romantic scene, set amid lush, naturalistic vegetation.The body, with a globular profile and a wide cylindrical neck, features rich applied decoration of branches, leaves, and large flowers, which envelops the figurative composition and accentuates its theatrical quality. The combination of the terracotta’s reddish surface with the remnants of polychrome and the greenish hues of the decoration lends the piece a unique chromatic richness and a distinctly decorative character.
The J. Baró and R. Reguant mark is associated with Barcelona’s ceramic production of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a period of significant development in the decorative arts in Catalonia. During these years, Barcelona became one of Spain’s leading centers for the renewal of artistic ceramics, coinciding with the rise of Catalan Modernism and a growing demand for decorative objects intended for the new bourgeois interiors.
