With a pronounced ovoid profile, broad shoulders, and a narrow mouth, the piece derives its decorative impact from the treatment of its surface. Against a deep black glaze, areas of metallic sheen in shades of gold, copper, and bronze appear, particularly concentrated at the top, where the crackle glaze creates a reticulated texture of great visual richness. The combination of a minimalist form with an experimental glaze is characteristic of the postwar renewal of French decorative ceramics.

Vallauris had a long tradition of pottery-making, but it was during the postwar period that it became one of the main centers of renewal in French artistic ceramics. A new generation of artists and workshops spurred intense experimentation with forms, glazes, and surface effects, often transforming utilitarian pieces into more sculptural works. This vase fits within that context; its bold, voluminous form and dark finish—with metallic highlights and a crackled effect—are consistent with that technical and decorative exploration.
