DESCRIPTION
JORDI ALCARAZ (Calella, Barcelona, 1963).
Untitled, 2004.
Painted ceramic.
Provenance: Galeria Mayoral, Barcelona.
Measurements: 42 cm high; maximum diameter 27 cm; base diameter 20 cm; mouth diameter 15 cm.
This work belongs to a period of consolidation of Jordi Alcaraz’s artistic language, when his exploration was already focused on blurring the boundaries between painting, sculpture, and object. Across the irregular volume of the ceramic, a dense network of blue lines extends in a gestural and seemingly spontaneous manner, traversing the entire surface and transforming the vessel into a canvas for a pictorial action. The contrast between the light background and the intensity of the blue reinforces the graphic rhythm, while the deformations and irregularities of the form distance the piece from a functional conception, placing it squarely in the realm of sculpture.
Jordi Alcaraz developed a practice situated between painting, sculpture, and the object, characterized by experimentation with materials and the physical transformation of the medium. Around 2004, he maintained an intense exhibition schedule in Spain, with shows in San Sebastián and Madrid and a presence at art fairs such as ARCO, Art Cologne, and Art Miami. He has held solo exhibitions at major international institutions and galleries, including NF Galería (Madrid), Jack Rutberg Fine Arts (Los Angeles), Galerie Stefan Vogdt (Munich), and Joan Prats (Barcelona). His work is included in collections such as those of MACBA and the Fundació Vila Casas.
