Joaquín Michavila was formed in the Superior School of Fine Arts of San Carlos of Valencia, being later professor of Fine Arts. He was one of the precursors of abstract art in Valencia, being part of groups such as Los Siete, Grupo Parpalló and Antes del Arte. His career goes through various phases of evolution and experimentation, thus, we find constructivist series where geometry has a great prominence, in which the fracture of space is investigated through flat surfaces, always without forgetting the absolute rigor of the composition. Meanwhile, in 1978, a new Michavila is born, author of a series justly famous, "El llac", which will be followed by the series of "El riu". Throughout his career, Michavila held exhibitions throughout Spain, as well as in Rome, Florence, Basel, Denver, Sao Paulo, New York and Vienna. He was distinguished with numerous awards, including the Alfonso Roig of the Diputación de Valencia in 1996 and the Gold Medal of the City of Valencia in 1997, as well as being named Alcorí Distinguit in 1998.
