Known by the pseudonym "Gutxi", Emilio Sánchez Cayuela trained at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, where he had contact with the Generation of '27 and was a student of Daniel Vázquez Díaz, whom he always mentioned with devotion. He also spent time in Italy, studying the art of mosaic. He received several awards throughout his career, including the 3rd Drawing Medal at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in 1950, the 1st Prize of the Provincial Council of Alava in 1957, and a Scholarship from the Juan March Foundation in 1967. He was an artist with great sensitivity and humanity. His work has been the subject of anthological exhibitions, such as the one organized by the Government of Navarre in the Museum of Navarre in 1991 as a tribute. He is especially known for his poster for the 1988 Bullfighting Fair.
