BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
ROBERTO MONTENEGRO (Mexico, 1885-1968).
"Ladies in the garden".
Mixed media on paper.
Signed.
Measurements: 24 x 24 cm; 45 x 45 cm (frame).
Painter, muralist and illustrator, Roberto Montenegro was one of the first artists to get involved in the Mexican muralism movement after the Mexican Revolution. His most important mural work was done in the former convent of San Pedro and San Pablo, but as his work did not have the same drama as other muralists, such as Diego Rivera, he lost prominence in this endeavor. Most of his career is dedicated to illustration and publication, portrait painting and the promotion of Mexican crafts and popular art.
