JOSEP MARIA DE SUCRE I DE GRAU (Barcelona, 1886 - 1969).
Untitled.
Wax on paper.

Measurements: 21 x 15 cm; 36 x 30 cm (frame).
Art critic, writer and painter, Josep Maria de Sucre celebrated his first individual exhibition in October 1928, in the Dalmau Galleries, and that same year he took part in an exhibition of abstract art that caused great scandal, being closed the second day. After the Civil War, Sucre was forced into poverty, although he gradually recovered his contacts and activities. In 1948 the first October Salon was held, in which the artist played an important organizational role. Two years later, on the occasion of his presence at the Cercle Maillol of the French Institute of Barcelona, conferences, projections and art exhibitions were held. In 1962 he was awarded the Juan Gris Prize for his pictorial career, and in 1964 a book of his memoirs was published. Sucre is currently represented in the MACBA in Barcelona and in the Gargallo Museum in Zaragoza, as well as in other public and private collections.
