Practically self-taught and born in Sitges, Bruno (1921-2000) had a life marked by important events that influenced his artistic development. From a very young age he painted everything that was put in front of him and received his first lessons from the hand of Magí Casanovas. After a life captured by the Civil War, Bruno went clandestinely to France, where he was arrested and interned in a refugee camp. Shortly after he was released and returned to Sitges in 1945, where he married and had two daughters. In 1952 he held his first exhibition at the Rialto cinema, a turning point that led him to commit himself to his artistic hobby. In 1953, affected by tuberculosis, he spends a year in bed without abandoning painting. After his recovery, he exhibited some of his works in store windows in Sitges and collaborated with other artists such as Pruna. In 1955 he had his first major exhibition at the Sala Pallarès in Barcelona, for which he received harsh criticism that led the artist to make a decision: to paint in his characteristic style, very close to surrealism. In 1958, an exhibition at the Sala Biosca in Madrid led critics to consider Bruno's painting as a serious contribution to Spanish surrealism.
