DESCRIPTION
LOUIS DÉSIRÉ THIÉNON (Paris, 1812 - ?).
"Roman ruins on the Adire", Tangier, 1838.
Watercolor.
Signed, dated and located in the lower left corner.
Measurements: 26 x 37 cm; 59.5 x 69.5 cm (frame).
In this romantic work Thiénon tries to communicate a religious reverence for the Moroccan landscape, the nature in fullness, free of the industrial elements of the modern life.
Painter, watercolorist and engraver, Louis Désiré Thiénon began his artistic practice at a very young age under the guidance of his father, Claude Thiénon. He later continued his studies as a pupil of Eugène Isabey. He exhibited at the Paris Salon between 1831 and 1884, and was awarded a third medal in the engraving section in 1836. In the painting section he obtained a second class medal in 1846. A great traveler, Thiénon toured England, Switzerland, North Africa, Spain, Italy and France, painting his landscapes, picturesque and emblematic corners. He is currently represented in the Clamecy Museum, the Lambinet Museum in Versailles, the Museum of Fine Arts in Rouen and the Museum of Archaeology and Natural Sciences in Troyes, as well as in various private collections.
