Jorge Castillo is a Spanish artist who since childhood showed a deep inclination for drawing, making at the age of ten a copy of Rubens that would mark his understanding of cubist art. After emigrating with his family to Buenos Aires, he returned to Europe in 1955 with the intention of settling in Paris, although he ended up settling in Madrid. There he came into contact with the critic José María Moreno Galván, who introduced him to the artistic circles of the city. He began to exhibit in important Madrid galleries and eventually specialized in engraving, a technique he alternated with painting throughout his career.
His career reached international renown after his participation in the São Paulo Biennial in 1960. Throughout the following decades he exhibited in renowned museums and galleries in cities such as New York, Paris, Tokyo and Berlin, where in 1970 he had a solo exhibition at the National gallery. He participated in the Venice Biennale (1964 and 1976) and received numerous awards, such as the international awards for Drawing and Painting in Darmstadt, the City of Pontevedra and Cultura Viva. He currently lives and works in New York's Soho, and his work is part of prominent public collections in Europe and America.
