Drawer and painter, Joan Commeleran was trained at the School of Arts and Crafts of Barcelona. He was one of the founders of the Group of Independent Artists, and a member of the Montjuic Salon. During the post-war period he devoted himself especially to religious mural painting (Santísimo Chapel of Santa María del Mar, Barcelona, 1945). He also illustrated books, such as "Ruta de Santiago" (1965).
