In the French painting of the XVIII century, the theme of "Diana and Endimión" occupied a prominent place within the renewed interest for the classic mythology. In a century marked by courtly refinement, gallant aesthetics and the rise of Rococo, mythological tales allowed artists to explore the ideal of beauty, veiled sensuality and natural harmony.
