Waves II represents one of the most refined and mature stages of Pablo Palazuelo, one of the great references of the Spanish abstract art of the 20th century. Created in 2001, this work reflects his continued interest in geometry, the perception of space and the dynamic rhythm of forms, elements that have defined his career since the 1950s.
Stylistically, Palazuelo combines formal rigor and visual sensibility, constructing an abstract language that moves between the mathematical and the organic. Pablo Palazuelo was one of the great references of Spanish art in the second half of the 20th century. Initially trained in architecture in Madrid and Oxford, from 1939 he devoted himself entirely to painting, receiving important awards throughout his career, such as the Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas and the Premio Velázquez, and was the subject of major retrospectives in institutions such as the Museo Reina Sofía, the MACBA and the Guggenheim Bilbao. His work is now part of major international modern and contemporary art collections.
