This caricatural scene is fully inscribed in Castanys' style as a graphic chronicler of popular life, where irony, costumbrismo and the acute observation of human types are essential elements.
Cartoonist, humorist, writer and comedian, Castanys was the main figure and promoter of the sports humor magazine "Xut!", founded in 1922. He also collaborated with a large number of graphic humor publications, such as "En Patufet", "El Be Negre" or "La Veu de Catalunya". He gained great popularity as a radio humorist, lecturer and writer. During the Civil War he settled in Donosti, where he published drawings in several magazines under the pseudonym "As".
