DESCRIPTION
EMILIO GRAU SALA (Barcelona, 1911 - Paris, 1975).
"Boulevard de Paris".
Ink on paper.
Signed in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 14 x 14 cm; 26 x 26 cm (frame).
Grau Sala captures a lively urban scene of the French capital through an agile and synthetic drawing done in ink on paper. The loose, almost sketchy line dispenses with minute detail to focus on the rhythm of the city and the immediate capture of movement and daily life. The work responds to the character of sketching from life, very typical of Grau Sala, and evidences his interest in the Parisian atmosphere, treated with lightness, elegance and a strong narrative sense.
Grau Sala moved very young to Paris, a city that decisively marked his artistic trajectory and where he developed a good part of his career. In the French capital he came into contact with the environments of illustration, poster art and modern painting, standing out for his fresh, synthetic style and great vitality.
Works by Emilio Grau Sala are kept in the Museo Nacional de Arte de Cataluña, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Esteban Vicente and the Instituto Óscar Domínguez de Arte y Cultura Contemporánea.
