This watercolor, attributed to Genaro Pérez Villaamil y Duguet, presents an evocative riverside scene dominated by a fortified architecture of medieval or imagined character. The composition is organized around an imposing set of towers and walls rising on a rocky promontory, whose volumes are softly reflected in the calm waters of the foreground.
The structures suggest both historical evocation and a possible idealized recreation, a frequent resource in Villaamil's production. The atmospheric treatment, achieved through soft glazes and a palette of ochre, bluish and greenish tones, adds depth and a sense of dreaminess.
