A Chilean painter and sculptor who has lived in Spain since 1984, Aldo Bahamonde was born into a family that loved painting, which favored the development of his early artistic vocation. At the age of twenty-one he moved to Madrid to study at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid, where he became friends with the painter Guillermo Muñoz Vera. In 1988 he made his debut with an exhibition of drawings held at the Assembly of Madrid, and two years later he began to collaborate with the Sammer Gallery, for which he worked exclusively until 1994. That same year he moved to Tenerife to carry out an ambitious project of more than forty works, including oil paintings, drawings, sculptures and engravings, which constitute a portrait of the island. On his return to Madrid, he began his collaboration with the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Torrelaguna, which will last until 2005. His work, realist in style, is especially admired for its Italian Cinquecento-inspired workmanship. His favorite themes are the human figure and the portrait, although he also tackles still life, interior scenes and landscapes. Since his debut in the late eighties, Bahamonde has held important exhibitions in Spain, Chile and Uruguay, with special mention for his participation in the exhibition "Contemporary Chilean Painters in Spain" (MNCARS, Madrid, 2000). He has also participated in fairs such as Arco and Shanghai International. He is currently represented in the Museu Europeu d'Art Modern de Barcelona, among other collections.
