ADOLFO NIGRO (Argentina, 1942 - 2018).
"Puerto", 1966.

Adolfo Nigro moved to Buenos Aires in the early 1950s, where he trained at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Manuel Belgrano and the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredón. During those years he was decisively influenced by masters such as Aurelio Macchi, Diana Chalukián, Héctor Nieto, Antonio Pujía and, especially, Víctor Magariños, who introduced him to the understanding of modern painting.
His first works, made since 1957 in oil and tempera, gave way to a constant evolution. In 1966 he settled in Montevideo, where he presented his first individual exhibition at the U Gallery and furthered his training in the workshop of Joaquín Torres García. During this period, drawing acquired a central role and his painting progressively moved away from realism, influenced by the analytical cubism of Picasso and Braque. In the early seventies he interrupted painting to devote himself to ceramics and tapestry, resuming it fully after his return to Buenos Aires in 1974, when the city became a recurring theme in his work.
Throughout his career he received numerous awards, including the Trabucco Prize from the ANBA in 1994, and exhibited in cities such as Montevideo, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires, Rosario, Madrid, Havana, Mexico, New York and Miami.
