This drawing by Antonio Valdivieso belongs to the period in which the artist lived in Paris (1951-1952), a key stage in his artistic formation and exploration. In this piece, Valdivieso shows his interest in bullfighting, a recurring theme in his work that reflects the deep Spanish cultural tradition.
A painter and engraver considered one of the main representatives of Spanish figuration in the second half of the 20th century, Valdivieso trained at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios in Granada, and was a member of the group of painters at the former Buchholz gallery in Madrid, where he exhibited regularly both individually and collectively. Between 1951 and 1952 he lived in Paris, and later collaborated with the architect Fernandez del Amo in the Plan of the National Institute of Colonization, making several stained glass windows for churches in Madrid, Lleida and Valladolid. He is currently represented at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía.
