This work on paper synthesizes with admirable economy of means the most refined plastic language of Joan Miró. Through free black lines and essential signs, the artist builds a poetic space where organic forms and cosmic symbols float, animated by touches of primary color -red, blue, green and yellow- applied with the vibrant immediacy of wax.
The composition responds to Miró's characteristic graphic universe in his maturity: seemingly simple figures that nevertheless articulate a complex system of spatial tensions and visual rhythms. The undulating lines and suspended signs evoke constellations, stars and biomorphic elements, configuring a language that oscillates between the childlike and the profoundly metaphysical.
Internationally acclaimed following the retrospective that the MOMA in New York dedicated to him in 1941, Joan Miró has received awards such as the Grand Prizes of the Venice Biennale and the Guggenheim Foundation, the Carnegie Prize for Painting, the Gold Medals of the Generalitat of Catalonia, etc. His work can currently be seen at the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona, as well as in major contemporary art museums around the world, such as the Thyssen-Bornemisza, the MoMA in New York, the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, the National Gallery in Washington, the MNAM in Paris and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo.
