Joan Castanyer i Romaní, known in France as Jean Castanier is a Catalan film director, screenwriter and actor. His presence in Paris in 1925 and his close relationship with the great artists and intellectuals of his time, such as Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dalí, are already documented. Castanyer was one of the founders of Le group Octobre, which was formed in 1932 and postulated the need for a militant cinema. During the Civil War, the Generalitat de Catalunya entrusted him with the direction of Laya gráfica of the Comissariat de Propaganda de la GeneraFilms, which was the cinematolat section.
