Bernard Jacob Rosenmeyer was an artist of Swedish origin whose career developed later in the United States, where he consolidated a versatile career, linked to the representation of the human figure. Painter, illustrator and lithographer, his work moved fluently between different media and formats, always maintaining a constant interest in everyday scenes and historical contexts.
From his beginnings, Rosenmeyer showed a particular inclination for visual storytelling. This sensibility led him to specialize in book illustration, a field in which he achieved notable recognition. His work was not limited to a single audience: he illustrated both children's works and texts for adults, adapting his visual language with a remarkable expressive capacity. Among his best known works are The Imp and the Angel (1901) and The Steam-Shovel Man (1913). In parallel, he cultivated genre painting and portraiture, exploring daily life and human emotions with an attentive and nuanced gaze.
