Outstanding drawing by Joan Ponç, where his disturbing and deeply symbolic imaginary unfolds with intensity. Executed in ink on paper, the composition presents a universe populated by hybrid figures, deformed characters and fantastic creatures, articulated through a precise, nervous and meticulous stroke.
Fragmented bodies, enigmatic faces and elements of difficult interpretation coexist in a space without hierarchies, generating an atmosphere of strong psychological charge. The mastery of drawing is evident in the richness of lines and plots, which form a visual language of his own, between the surreal and the visionary.
The work reflects the existential concerns of the artist, where the human being is subjected to processes of transformation and questioning. Its inclusion in the online catalog reinforces its relevance and guarantees its authenticity.
Due to its quality and iconographic complexity, it is a remarkable example of the creative universe of Joan Ponç, one of the most singular artists of the Spanish 20th century.
A painter and draftsman trained in Barcelona, Joan Ponç began his career after his first solo exhibition in 1946. In 1948 he was one of the founders of the avant-garde group Dau al Set, an essential nucleus of the artistic renovation of the Catalan post-war period. In the early fifties he participated in the main national and international artistic forums and, after a stay in Paris, he moved to Brazil, where he lived from 1953 to 1962 and consolidated his international projection.
He is currently represented at the Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of São Paulo, the Patio Herreriano Museum in Valladolid, the MACBA in Barcelona, the Basque Center-Museum of Contemporary Art in Vitoria, the Museum of L'Empordà and the Reina Sofía National Museum and Art Center.
