DESCRIPTION
JAUME PONS MARTÍ (Barcelona, 1855 - Girona, 1931).
"Studies".

One of them signed.
Measurements: 33,5 x 45 cm; 48,5 x 62 cm (frame).
Nephew of Ramón Martí Alsina, Pons Martí begins with him in the observation of the natural. In 1870 he founded a school of drawing and painting in Gràcia, Barcelona, and began to produce commissioned works. He soon excelled as a portraitist, with an abundant production of neoclassical tone impregnated with romanticism. In 1878 he settled in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Girona, where he opened a new school and devoted himself to landscapes and seascapes, inspired by local nature. His landscapes always featured characters that followed the costumbrist line of the time. In 1897 he took up residence in Girona, and alternated his teaching with stays in Olot, where he came into contact with the thriving local naturalist school. He also painted history paintings, still lifes, female nudes, religious themes and genre paintings. He is represented in the provincial council of Girona, as well as in important private collections such as the Pairó-Pons.
