Fermín Santos captures an urban view of intense expressive force, centered on the popular and monumental architecture of the Castilian city. The street appears constructed by means of a nervous and energetic drawing, where facades, balconies, arches and cobblestones are articulated with a great richness of strokes.
Fermín Santos trained at the School of Arts and Crafts in Madrid and, after the Civil War, at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts. He received numerous awards, among them the "Vázquez Díaz" End of Career Award, several medals in the Salones de Otoño, the Paleta de Oro of 1981 and the Abeja de Oro of Guadalajara. He exhibited in Spain, the United States and Libya, and his work is represented in the Fermín Santos Museum in Sigüenza, the Vatican Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid and the Camón Aznar Foundation, among other institutions.
