Jorge Castillo creates an intimate and silent scene in which two female figures are integrated into a domestic space dominated by the presence of images hanging on the wall. The watercolor, applied with great delicacy, allows the artist to work with transparencies, glazes, and barely hinted-at areas, creating an atmosphere suspended between the real and the imaginary.

The composition is part of Castillo’s characteristic universe, in which the human figure, dreams, memory, and theatricality intertwine naturally. The bodies appear fragmented, superimposed, or partially blurred, as if they belonged more to an inner vision than to an everyday scene.

Jorge Castillo is one of the leading figures in postwar Spanish figurative art, with an international career spanning Spain, Argentina, Paris, Berlin, and New York. He participated in the São Paulo Biennial and the Venice Biennale, and received the International Drawing Prize in 1964. His work is represented in collections such as the Reina Sofía Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts in A Coruña, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
