The preservation of both the handwritten text and the two pictorial sections makes this parabaik—a format characteristic of Burmese book culture—particularly noteworthy. Unlike manuscripts on palm leaves, these books were made from a long sheet of paper folded like an accordion, a structure that allowed for the combination of writing and images across a continuous expanse.

The calligraphy is arranged in horizontal lines on ivory-colored paper, whose surface retains the irregularities and variations characteristic of artisanal production. The presence of writing and illumination makes it a significant testament to a material tradition that is particularly vulnerable to wear, humidity, and the passage of time.

Parabaik could contain material of a historical, legal, grammatical, literary, or religious nature, as well as illustrated cycles depicting Buddhist episodes, Jataka tales, and scenes from court life. The British Library holds one of the leading collections of Burmese manuscripts, including numerous folding books and important illustrated examples, while the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the British Museum house comparable pieces made from local paper and arranged in an accordion-fold format.
