BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
GASTONE RINALDI (Padua, 1920-2006) for Rima.
Stool chair. Italy. 1960s.
Wicker and iron.
Measurements: 61 x 47 x 47 cm.
High chair or stool designed by Gastone Rinaldi in the sixties for the Italian firm Rima. The curved profile of soft contours of the wicker chair is combined with the tubular rotundity of the iron structure, which opens into four stylized legs joined with a cross brace. Rinaldi's creations are avant-garde without renouncing the legacy of tradition.
The Padua-born designer became the owner of RIMA, the company specializing in the production of metal furniture, founded by his father in 1920. Rinaldi took the family business to another level, generating avant-garde designs that had relevant repercussions in the world of Italian and international design, becoming an emblem of the transition from artisan to industrial production in the 1950s.
His way of doing things allowed him to surround himself with the best designers of the time, even collaborating with them, as was the case with Gio Ponti, Ico Parisi or Carlo De Carli, among many others.
