BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
BERNT PETERSEN (Denmark, 1937-2017) for Schiang, Odense, Denmark.
Armchair and stool from series H680 and H684, 1950s.
Oak wood frame. Original wool cushion.
Measurements: 105 x 78 x 78 cm (chair); 62 x 49 x 37 cm (stool).
This armchair with its matching ottoman has been designed by Bern Petersen, creator whose furniture has been mainly made of light wood, as in this occasion. Both pieces follow the Mid-Century style: the avant-garde trend of this style is well recognized in the world of interior design as it represents modernism, but, at the same time, remains a classic touch. This type of furniture is present in many homes and spaces due to the combination of functionality and aesthetics.
Bernt Petersen trained as a cabinetmaker and later graduated from the School of Design at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, where he later worked as a teacher between 1978 and 1985. After completing his studies, Petersen worked at Mobilia and Hans J. Wegner before opening his own studio in 1963. His designs have become collector's items and can be found in the world's finest collections.
