BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

ANTONIO DA ROS (Italy, 1936 - 2012) for Cenedese.
"Bull", c. 1960.
Murano glass, Sommerso.
Presents excellent state of preservation.
Measurements: 23 x 25 x 10 cm.
Glass sculpture depicting a bull. The author has used the Sommerso technique in Murano glass, which is to create multiple layers of colored glass without mixing colors. It is achieved by dipping a piece of blown glass in molten glass of another color, creating an effect of "submerged glass". In this case the artist has played with both the color and the shape of the material to create a work that stands out for its dynamism and technical virtuosity.
Antonio da Ros graduated in 1957 from the Istituto Superiore di Arti Decorativo 'Carmini' in Venice, obtaining the title of professor of decorative arts and architecture. In 1958 he began working at the glass factory gino Cenedese (then Ars Cenedese Murano). The presence of Mr. Da Ros remained permanent at the Cenedese glass factory, always working in close collaboration with the master glass artisans. Under his art direction, the factory developed various decorative lines of contemporary design, always at the highest level. First, with the stylized shapes with immersion of colored glass; in recent years, with the technique of 'scavo' glass (a particular glass finish, similar to glass brought to light in archaeological excavations) an important decorative line has been introduced in several new creations, all of them of great appeal to him: the simplicity of the lines, the preciousness of the material and the modernity of the colors. His mature works were a return to the traditional Murano techniques of hand-blown glass, but reinterpreted with a contemporary sensibility; such as the 'Venice Dreams' collection, as well as the 'Venezia I' and 'Venezia II' collections.
