DESCRIPTION
ÅKE FRIBYTTER (Sweden, 1922- 1998) for Nelo Möbel.
Kroken armchair, c. 1970.
Stained wood and leather upholstery.
Exhibits wear consistent with age and use.
Measurements: 90 x 94 x 73 cm.
The Kroken armchair is characterized by its curved wooden frame, a canvas seat supported by leather ropes and a removable leather cushion for both the seat and the backrest. The headrest and armrests are also made of leather.
Fribyter worked for Carl Malmsten in the early 1950s. In 1961, together with Ingvar Carlsson, he created the Mysingen furniture series. Fribyter also designed the Classic chair for Gemla Möbler AB and the Kroken recliner for Nelo möbler in 1974. Swedish publisher Nelo Möbel produces a large number of Fribytter's designs, from chairs and armchairs to Lounge Chairs with ottomans.
