BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
ENRIC FRANCH (Barcelona, 1943-2024) for Metalarte.
Calder" table lamp, 1974.
Metal.
Measurements: 40 cm (height) x 92,5 cm (length).
The Calder lamp is a clear homage to the American sculptor Alexander Calder, known for his mobiles. Its arm rotates and can be adjusted in height as well as the spherical core that supports the halogen bulb. The switch is incorporated in the base and acts as a potentiometer to regulate the intensity of the light.
Enric Franch was an important reference in the world of design, intellectual and creative at the same time. He was born in Barcelona in 1943 and graduated from the Escuela Superior de Ciencias Sociales de Barcelona. In 1968 he began his work as an industrial designer, which was expanding into the world of interior design and in particular exhibition design and museography, where he is a clear reference. He participated in the ICSID congress in Ibiza in 1973, being a member of ADI-FAD. He collaborated with the company Metalarte (National Design Award in 2004) for years as a consultant and designer. In 1975 he signed for this company the Calder table lamp, undoubtedly his most emblematic product, an icon of the start of Spanish design, with international repercussions and which would come to equip the office of François Mitterrand's Eliseo.
