BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

JOAQUIM ANSON & PERE ROIG; Catalonia, 20th century.
Pair of "Sabater" armchairs, 1967.
Pine wood and leather straps.
Measurements: 75 cm (height); 35 x 67 x 67 cm (seat).
The Sabater model is an individual armchair that repeats Joaquim Anson's usual structure: right angles, visible joints and a compositional play based on horizontal and vertical lines. This piece presents three singularities with respect to other Anson designs. It incorporates armrests, the thickness of the wood is lighter and adds leather straps to hold the backrest cushion, a feature unique to this armchair and the sofa belonging to the same series. The introduction of the leather straps was a proposal from Jaume Sabater to Anson,
Joaquim Anson was a Catalan designer whose work was characterized by a deep integration between furniture and architectural space. More than a simple creator of furniture, Anson conceived each piece as an inseparable part of the environment that welcomed it. From shelves and drawer units to armchairs and sofas, his production was always articulated in dialogue with the architecture, attending to functionality, proportion and the specific needs of those who would inhabit those spaces.
Trained in close collaboration with architects such as Jordi Capell and Narcís Majó, Anson developed a very marked spatial sensitivity, which led him to understand furniture as a natural extension of the building itself. His methodology consisted of taking advantage of the existing structure.
Pere Roig, a carpenter by trade, set up on his own and produced much of Anson's furniture.
