BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
WILLY DARO (Belgium, active between the 1950s and 1990s).
Pair of table lamps, 1970s.
Solid brass.
Measurements: 78 x 45 x 23 cm (x2).
This pair of table lamps has the aesthetic imprint of Willy Daro's works. Both have the same design with shafts made of solid brass, adopting organic and irregular shapes that contrast with the square base with sharp edges. The sinuous shapes are reminiscent of natural motifs reinterpreted with a modern and luxurious language. Their organically inspired sculptural structures evoke an elegant aesthetic typical of mid-century European decorative design style.
Unfortunately, little biographical information is known about Belgian designer Willy Daro. We do know that, during the 1950s and 1970s, he worked in the field of design and lighting. Owner of Les Nouveaux Ateliers, Willy Daro worked in Brussels from 1960 to 1987. His pieces are elegant and full of movement, and he often used agate as the dramatic focal point, a very fashionable stone during the 1960s.
