The uniqueness of the PS142 armchair lies in the cut in the center of its backrest, which fits perfectly to the user's back, forming two mirrored twin bodies. It is an enveloping, comfortable and functional armchair, reflecting the aesthetic postulates of the Italian midcentury avant-garde.
Eugenio Gerli's extensive professional career, which spanned more than 60 years, helped the Milan native to establish himself as one of the most prolific designers of 20th century Italy. He combined his facet as an architect with that of furniture designer. This wide range of projects also inspired his industrial design creations, and today many of his projects have become iconic: the S83 chair, the PS 142 Clamis armchair, the Jamaica bar cabinet, the Graphis System office suite. In 1950 Eugenio Gerli began his professional activity as an architect. His early work was influenced by the works of Frank Lloyd Wright, Alvar Aalto and Charles Eames. In 1977 his sons Enrico and Guido, architects, joined the company, with whom Eugenio Gerli shared subsequent projects. Eugenio Gerli also loved to integrate architecture with the visual arts, collaborating with artists such as Arnaldo Pomodoro, Lucio Fontana, Blasco Mentor, Pietro Cascella, Guido Somarè. Some of them have become design classics, exhibited in the most important museums in the world such as the Milan Triennale, the Pompidou Center, the Museum of Decorative Arts (MAD) located in the Louvre and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
