BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Side table. France, late nineteenth century.
In wood and bamboo, with lacquered top and patinated bronze applications.
It has some faults.
Measurements: 76 x 78 x 64 cm.
French auxiliary table. Executed in wood and bamboo canes, with lacquer top and patinated bronze applications. It is raised on four thick bamboo legs of inclined section, which converge in an elevated foot of the same material. The top, with an octagonal profile enhanced by a bamboo frame, has a delicate lacquered decoration of Japanese inspiration on its surface: a refined floral motif, with chrysanthemums and other species, accompanied by birds in flight. At the waist, carefully integrated into the design, there are two drawers facing each other that complete the functionality of the piece.
A work of marked exoticism, it faithfully reflects the fascination of fin-de-siècle France with japonisme, a trend that had a decisive influence on European decorative arts.
