BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

VICO MAGISTRETTI (Milan, 1920 - 2006) for Artemide.
Set of 4 Selene chairs, 1969.
Maroon red plastic.
Condition: 7/10
Measurements: 74x50x50 cm.

Set of four stackable chairs, from the famous Selene model. The adaptability both outdoors and indoors and its soft lines have made the Selene collection a classic. Chair made of dark red glass-reinforced plastic, a material formed by a matrix of plastic or resin reinforced with glass fibers, very solid and resistant. Selene is the result of a single compression molding process on a pre-impregnated sheet. A successful example of elegance and essential expressiveness with the use of new technologies, it became an emblematic and universal piece in the following decades.

Vico Magistretti was an Italian industrial designer, dedicated to furniture and architecture. He graduated from the Milan Polytechnic in 1945, and became a follower of Ernesto Nathan Rogers. During the 1950s he devoted himself to the design of mass-produced furniture. Some of his lamps are famous, such as the so-called Eclisse. Some of his designs are present in important museums in Europe, the United States and Japan. The MoMA in New York houses objects by Magistretti in its permanent collection.
